LG-Nortel selects Qt Extended

LG-Nortel to use Qt for a new family of IP communication devices

Qt Developer Days--Munich, Germany--October 14, 2008--Qt Software announced today that LG-Nortel is using Qt Extended to create the Linux-based user interface on a new line of devices that includes both desktop phones and Wi-Fi handsets.

“Our focus is on providing the best communication products to enrich the human experience,” said Mr. Sung-Tae Park, Chief of ES R&D Center, LG-Nortel. “With Qt we can devote our efforts to creating market-leading products without having to worry about managing the complexities of the software infrastructure.”

By creating a standardized software platform using Qt and embedded Linux, LG-Nortel is able to create a range of new, innovative products and get them to market faster spreading software development investments across an entire range of IP-enabled devices. In addition, LG-Nortel selected Qt because of its ability to quickly create rich user interfaces, providing an important time-to-market advantage.

“LG-Nortel’s selection of Qt to create a software platform for their range of IP communication devices mirrors an increasingly important trend in the market. By creating a common platform with a consistent user interface, LG-Nortel is saving both time and development resources,” said Sebastian Nyström, VP of Nokia Qt Software.

The first release of devices using this software platform will be an enterprise VoIP phone and a consumer videophone, both scheduled to be released globally by the end of 2009.
