Qt provided cross-platform application framework for medical imaging platform
The Challenge
MeVis, which develops imaging software designed for clinical use by radiologists and surgeons, was looking to develop an advanced image processing network for collaborators to share crucial image data. The framework for platform development had to be easy to use so that development would go quickly and had to be capable of enabling rich images. Additionally, the framework had to support development on multiple platforms.
The Solution
Using Qt’s API, developers were able to write a single source code base that runs natively across multiple platforms. MeVis developers also made use of the Qt Class Library which provided the infrastructure needed for end-to-end application development. Not only did the cleaner code made possible by Qt reduce the maintenance burden for MeVis developers, Qt’s elegant, object-oriented architecture made it possible to combine image processing, visualization and interaction modules to create complex image processing networks using a graphical programming approach.
The Value
Simplified development boosted productivity and made it possible for the MeVis development team to deliver a powerful, feature rich product for clinical use by researchers and radiologists quickly.
“Qt improved our productivity but it didn’t force us to reinvent
our development process. Now we have a cross-platform application with no
more effort than we needed for a single platform. Debugging is easier and the
quality of our code is better. We are very happy with Qt.”
