Sennheiser/e-GITS
Sennheiser needed a high-performance application framework to create their development platform for audio technology application
The Challenge
Audio technology leader Sennheiser and its service provider partner e-GITS wanted to develop a sophisticated desktop application that would allow users to maintain a clear overview of an entire network of multi-channel sound systems. The application would be available on a PC connected to a rack-mountable NET 1 hardware appliance.
The Solution
For development of its new application, the team chose Qt. Qt’s elegant object-oriented architecture enabled e-GITS’ team of developers to design the NET 1 application quickly and easily. Key to the success of the project was Qt’s set of item view classes that use a model/view architecture to manage the relationship between data and the way it is presented to the user. This gave the developers greater flexibility to customize the presentation of items and provided a standard model interface to allow a wide range of data sources to be used with existing item views.
The Value
Because the new application was developed quickly and easily, time to market was shortened. Additionally, the new product, with its sophisticated features, gave the company a competitive edge.
“We saw immediately that Qt was going to be easier to use. We saw
that the libraries, the way Qt is structured, and its object-oriented design
were going to give us the flexibility we needed.”
