Wistron NeWeb Corp (WNC)

Using Qtopia, WNC can now bring Linux-based mobile handsets to market faster

The Challenge

To seize an increasing share of the mobile phone market, WNC made the decision to adopt the Linux Operating System for development of its next-generation mobile devices. The company felt the Linux platform would provide the best opportunity for innovation for its new products.

The Solution

Qtopia delivered the Linux-based platform that WNC’s software developers needed to create, modify and test its new dual-mode GSM/WiFi device, the GW1. The stable, embedded window system and advanced GUI facilitated development of complex applications, increasing development efficiency. In only 18 months, WNC was able to bring its hybrid GW1 mobile phone to market.

The Value

WNC was able to leverage Qtopia’s Linux-based platform to reduce development time and design rich features for its new handset, which have helped to increase WNC’s market share.

”With Qtopia, our innovative products can be released rapidly. At the same time, our capacity to customize for a worldwide array of clients has been improved.”
Ralph Chang, Programming Manager, WNC
