Trolltech brings VoIP functionality to high end mobile phone
3GSM WORLD CONGRESS, 14 February - 2006 - Trolltech®, a leading provider of technologies that make advanced software faster to build and easier to use, today announced that its Qtopia® software for Linux-based embedded products is the application development platform for Taiwanese Wistron NeWeb's GSM/Wi-Fi phone. Wistron NeWeb Corporation (WNC) is among the world's largest ODM companies producing ICT products.
WNC's GW1, the Linux dual-mode cellular/VoIP phone based on Trolltech's Qtopia will go into production in the second quarter of 2006.
WNC's GSM / Wi-Fi platform, also referred to as the GW series, supports dual standby between cellular and 802.11b/g VoWiFi (VoIP-over-WiFi) networks. The GW series will support GSM, CDMA and various 3G technologies. Other advanced features include POP3/IMAP email, Web browsing, MP3 and MPEG-4 playback, up to 40 downloadable polyphonic ring tones, and even some IPTV capabilities. It will be marketed in Europe and Asia later this year.
