Qt Jambi Brings Rich Client Development Speed and Efficiency to Java Developers

Qt Jambi with Eclipse Integration Now Available

Oslo, Norway, 06 June - 2007 - Trolltech today announced the availability of Qt® Jambi™ a cross-platform, rich client application development framework for Java™. The release of Qt Jambi expands the use of Qt, Trolltech’s flagship C++ based product, to a large and growing market of Java developers.

Qt Jambi increases development efficiency, adds freedom and flexibility to Java development, and provides the assurance of a solid, mature framework for organizations developing high performance, cross-platform desktop applications with Java.

According to market research firm, Evans Data Corporation , the number of Java developers "will continue to hold a prominent position for the foreseeable future." In the US alone, more than one million developers use Java. Outside the US, a collective 1.5 million Java developers exist.

"Poseidon was looking for a development tool with a modern programming environment for our new product," said Helge Fredriksen, Product Leader for the GMDSS simulation product at Poseidon Maritime AS. "We've been using Qt for a while and were familiar with its useful technologies which we use extensively. When we experimented with Qt Jambi, we knew we found a way to bridge C++ with Java without sacrificing performance. This would not have been possible if we used other technologies," he added.

Common Development Pains Eased

With an intuitive, easy to learn API and integrated development tools for User Interface (UI) design and internationalization, Qt Jambi enables rapid development of advanced rich-client applications. Qt Jambi developers can deliver more functionality faster and with greater precision than what is possible with other Java tools. Additionally, Qt Jambi builds on Qt’s Graphical User Interface (GUI) pedigree to make performing traditionally difficult tasks, such as programming UIs that look and feel native on their target platforms, straightforward.

Freedom and Flexibility

Most large development organizations utilize multiple programming languages. With Qt Jambi, development teams have the freedom to collaborate and seamlessly integrate C++ and Java code and skills. Additionally, teams can work with third-party tools and IDEs to develop rich-client applications in the language of their choice. Qt Jambi is also seamlessly integrated with the popular Eclipse™ IDE giving developers the freedom to develop in the environment of their choice.  Qt Jambi also provides integration with leading tools such as OpenGL® for 3D graphics.

“In addition to adding value to Java developers, current Qt customers who wish to add Java to their current C++ applications now have a solution”, said Naren Karattup, product director, developer tools, Trolltech. “Independent studies of our customers indicate more than 25 percent wish to use Qt with Java”, he added.
