America’s Leading Network Music and Internet Radio Provider Selects Qt for Its Next Generation Streaming Media Device
Qt for Embedded Linux® to be integrated into a soon-to-be-announced multimedia streaming product
Oslo, Norway, 11 March - 2008 - Trolltech® announced today that Roku, Inc. has selected Qt for Embedded Linux® to be integrated into a soon-to-be-announced multimedia streaming product. Qt for Embedded Linux, formerly known as Qtopia® Core, is Trolltech’s leading application framework for single-purpose devices powered by embedded Linux.
Qt for Embedded Linux is known for providing a robust and proven solution that enables manufacturers to efficiently deliver products with a unique user experience. Consumer electronics manufacturers such as Sony®, Royal Philips®, Panasonic® or industrial device manufacturer’s such as Fluke Networks® are just a few examples of Qt for Embedded Linux customers.
“As on-demand digital media revolutionizes the home entertainment experience, the demand for connected, powerful, and easy-to-use Internet media players is taking off,” said Tim Twerdahl, vice president of consumer products, Roku, Inc. “Trolltech’s Qt for Embedded Linux allows us to create a rich interface for tomorrow’s streaming media devices and get them to market quickly.”
Roku chose Qt because of its ability to quickly create a rich user interface, providing an important time-to-market advantage. Qt also delivers the ability to support multiple operating systems and devices from a single codebase. As with all versions of Qt, developers are able to focus on building the core value of each product, instead of platform-specific maintenance. Qt also eliminates the need to invest resources in multiple languages, toolkits and environments.
