Qtopia Partner Community Spearheading the Advances in Mobile Linux

Open Mobile Phone Technology and Single Core Processor Breakthrough are Key Highlights at 3GSM

Oslo, Norway, 06 February - 2007 - Trolltech®, the company that makes software faster to build and easier to use, today announced a wide range of Qtopia® partner activities in connection with the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona Feb 12-16 2007. This includes technology that for the first time prepares Linux for the mass-volume feature phone market.

The vibrant and continuously expanding Qtopia partner community, as demonstrated by the range of best-of-breed partner technology solutions showcased at 3GSM, provides device manufacturers with a unique competitive advantage. Together with its Qtopia partners, Trolltech offers a proven application platform with best-of-breed support, training and consultancy services.

Numerous partners will be demonstrating their applications on Qtopia Greenphone™ at 3GSM. Greenphone, launched in August 2006, is the first open Linux mobile phone development environment for application developers. It enables commercial and open source developers, in-house software developers and handset manufacturers to create, modify and test Linux- based mobile phone applications on a working GSM/GPRS device, making the applications easier to build and faster to bring to market.

Partners showcasing new technology in Trolltech's stand are:

  • VirtualLogix™ – global leader in Real-Time Virtualization™ for connected devices –demonstrating Qtopia running on a single core platform. Enabling Linux for the 3G feature phone market, this signifies a breakthrough development for mobile Linux.
  • Sun MicrosystemsSM - provider of Java Platform Micro Edition (Java ME) client solutions for mobile devices - displaying their Mobile Services Architecture (MSA) supported Sun Java Wireless Client for Qtopia Greenphone. This high-performance, small footprint, optimized implementation provides a full featured application platform and enables a powerful and customizable user experience.
  • Opera Software will demonstrate their award winning browser on Qtopia Greenphone– allowing the user to surf the full web on a mobile device.
  • Movial delivers proven software and services for the IP communications market and will demonstrate Movial Communicator Mobile client enabling presence and instant messaging (IM) functionality on Qtopia Greenphone. Movial Communicator Mobile is based on IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and supports interoperability across Mobile, PCs and internet tablets. 
  • Digital Airways will demonstrate their user interface solution Kaleido, a fully integrated environment that enables the creation of a mobile handsets complete application layer, running on Qtopia Greenphone.

More than a dozen leading technology companies will demonstrate Qtopia solutions throughout the 3GSM exhibition. This includes companies such as Infineon, Flander, Aplix Corporation, Esmertec, FSMLabs, Jataayu Software, Beep Science, Zi Corporation, Marvell®, Teleca, QSound and NEC Electronics.
