Trolltech Conference Brings Community of Developers Together

by Karen Lachtanski

Trolltech recently held its 3rd annual Trolltech Developer Days 2006 event in Munich (Oct 11-12) and San Jose (Oct 26-27). Developers from around the world were promised the opportunity to expand their knowledge, share ideas and that they would be eager to get back to their offices to put into use the things they've learned….and Trolltech delivered.

"Just wanted to drop a big "Thank you" to Trolltech! It was an exciting event, lot's of interesting talks with Trolls and attendees. And all the Trolls, especially the speakers did a _very_ good job in my opinion." Uwe from Germany

The event highlights included plenary talks from Trolltech management: Eirik Chambe-Eng and Haavard Nord, Matthias Ettrich and Lars Knoll and visionary insights from Dr. Karsten Homman and Benoit Schillings. Keynote addresses were given from Dr. Bjarne Stroustrup (designer and original implementer of C++ ) and Jose Carlos Arcas (Siemens AG Automation & Drives EA).

The afternoon breakout sessions gave attendees a choice of more than 32 technical topics given by Trolls, partners and customers ranging in technical complexity for beginners to experts. Sessions such as "Hello Qt" and "Qt in Depth", "Customizing Qtopia" and "Automatically Testing Qt and Qtopia Applications" gave attendees a choice of a wide range of topic areas.

New to this year's conference was the Developer Lab. The Lab included 3 support desks, a hands-on look at the new Qtopia Greenphone and a chance to interact with Qt Jambi. By all accounts, the Lab was a huge success. In fact, some customers were so happy with the Support Desk they came with offerings of chocolate and other items which we were told were consumed immediately.

The conference was expanded to two days this year as suggested by attendee surveys from previous Developer Days. This gave the Trolls the opportunity to have a little fun during the Dinner with the Trolls by having a Nerds vs Geeks contest. The (proud?) winner outlasted his colleagues in trivia questions in categories of space, computer/computer games, comic books, science and Qt.

Trolltech thanks its community of commercial and open source developers for participating in the Conference, the partners who sponsored, exhibited and delivered session talks, the Trolls who presented session talks and all the Trolls who contributed to a successful Developer Days 2006!
